Top ten: Outrageous French political scandals
After the dramatic fall from grace of France's Budget Minister Jérôme Cahuzac, who finally admitted having lied about the existence of his Swiss bank account this week, The Local looks back at some other great scandals that have involved France's public figures over the years. Some are well known and others, which include the Panama Canal, dodgy diamonds, a cardinal and a prostitute might not be.
In 1959, it was found that the President of France’s National Assembly, André le Troquer, had been using his official residence for ‘ballet perfomances’ that ended in sado-masochistic orgies, involving girls as young as 14. The one-armed 73-year-old was convicted of “offences against morality” in a scandal that involved major French businessmen and even a Romanian countess.
