A "Soirée" is not a "party" -
For expats, being invited to a “party” conjures up images of crowds of people, plenty of booze, loud music and raucous laughter. A French “party” or “soirée,” however, is not quite in the same vein. One Brit reader moaned to The Local about how she had been dragged along, time and again by her boyfriend to a soirée ready to "party" but instead been confronted with a quiet group sat in a circle sharing a bottle of wine.
