MARJANE SATRAPI. Satrapi grew up in Tehran to middle-class, outspoken Marxist parents who protested against the US-backed Shah of Iran. After the 1979 Revolution, she was sent to a French school in Vienna, after which she moved on to Paris, where she now lives. Her series of graphic novels, ‘Persepolis,’ is a semi-autobiographical account of this journey from rebellious, music-loving teenager in Iran to resentful, isolated young adult in Europe, and beyond.
