France began the first heatwave of June on Wednesday with temperatures across the country shooting up, and expected to get higher.
Météo France has placed 26 départements on orange alert for extreme heat on Thursday, starting at noon and continuing until midnight.

The warning covers most of central and eastern France including the greater Paris region, Lyon and the French Alps.
The déârtements on alert are; Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-d'Oise, Yvelines, Seine-et-Marne, Essonne, Eure-et-Loir, Loiret, Cher, Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Rhône, Ain, Haute-Savoie, Saône-et-Loire, Jura, Nièvre, Côte-d'Or, Haute-Saône, Doubs, Territoire de Belfort, Yonne, Aube and Haute-Marne.
Temperatures are generally predicted to be between 30C and 35C, although they could reach as high as 40C in some areas.
High temperatures are expected to be high across France, including in the south.
The heatwave is predicted to last through the weekend and into the following week, possibly until the end of the month.
