Gatherings of world leaders normally make for quite boring photos - a bunch of men in suits smiling and shaking hands. But the pictures of Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump at the G7 summit in the French Alps have been raising some eyebrows.

World leaders are currently gathered in the pretty spa town of Evian-les-Bains in the French Alps for the annual summit of G7 countries.

On the agenda is all sorts of serious stuff about global cooperation in an increasingly fractured world, as well as trying to patch together some consensus on ending the conflict in Iran.

But international summits are also about photoshoots - when even leaders who cannot stand each other smile and shake hands and try to look friendly for the cameras.

So within the context of these traditionally boring photos, the pictures of summit host Emmanuel Macron with US leader Donald Trump have raised a few eyebrows.

Let's get the caveat out of the way - we've all been the subject of an extremely unflattering photo, sometimes the camera does lie, or at least it presents only a split second that might not be representative of the moment.

But even having said that, Trump appears grumpy, confused or both in almost every single one of the dozens of photos taken at the conference.

The US president also wheeled out his famous 'power handshake', but this time it was French first lady Brigitte Macro who was the recipient of the extremely long shake.

Trump is expected to stay in France until at least Wednesday evening, when Macron will host him to dinner at the Palace of Versailles.
