I did not know Hollande's nickname was Flamby (Flambée?). It reminds me of a joke told in parliament by Paul Keating, one of the great Australian Prime Ministers, and famous for his bon mots. Asked for his view of the previously defeated opposition leader running against him again he responded: Does a soufflé rise twice?

Nice one! Hollande's nickname comes from Flanby - it's a rather bland pudding, caramel and milk flavoured, comes in individual pots like yoghurt - it's the sort of thing you give to kids as a snack or for a packed lunch

JL: That is a strange argument. Who better than someone who has already failed? Au contraire, mon vieux (one vieux to another:-). Accepted wisdom in the Silicon Valley start-up game is that it is good to have a failure or two under your belt. In politics they say nothing prepares you for the top job. A second shot at it means you are not going to mess around or commit the same newbie errors. Trump is an example of this: he had no intention of wasting his second term (alas). But Hollande… non!
