The Talking France podcast is back with a look at how the war in Iran is affecting daily life in France, the likely runners in the 2027 presidential election, why the French love Celine Dion so much and the different ways to say 'hello'.

Host Ben McPartland is joined by The Local France's Emma Pearson, Emma Albright and John Lichfield to look at all the news and talking points from France this week.

You can find the Talking France podcast on Spotify, Apple or the French platform Deezer and via our friends at World Radio Paris. You can download it here or listen on the link below.

Starting with the Poisson d'Avril - the French April fool's - we take a look at why fish are involved and where the tradition might come from.

We then discuss the effects of the war in Iran on France, from food prices to roadblocks, and what the government can do about the situation.

With France's local elections in the past, it's time to focus on the future - the 2027 presidential election. We talk about potential candidates and who can be expected to win. We also look at what the situation could look like for immigrants in France under a far-right president.

In other news, Celine Dion has officially announced her return to the stage in Paris after weeks of teasing and mysterious billboards popping up in the streets of the capital. But why do the French love her so much?

And finally, we finish off by talking about all the different ways of saying hello in French, in formal and less formal contexts.

Coucou is not peekaboo! It's Cooee!

Do you think? I don't really use 'cooee' myself, but I've always thought of it more as a word to attract someone's attention, rather than a greeting? Whereas coucou can definitely be a greeting, albeit an informal one
