The Talking France podcast is back after a two-week break looking at everything surrounding the upcoming French local elections, the rising petrol prices in the country, and why so many Americans are moving to Montpellier.

Host Ben McPartland is joined by The Local France's Emma Pearson, Emma Albright and John Lichfield to look at all the news and talking points from France this week.

Starting with the French local elections with the first round of voting happening on Sunday March 15th. We discuss fake news, potential winners and some key things to watch in the race.

You can find the Talking France podcast on Spotify, Apple or the French platform Deezer and via our friends at World Radio Paris. You can download it here or listen on the link below.

Petrol prices are soaring in France due to the US and Israel’s war on Iran - one dispatch team from the French fraud squad will carry out 500 unannounced checks on filling stations this week to make sure no one takes advantage of the situation.

John Lichfield discusses the difference between Jacques Chirac and Emmanuel Macron and how the current French President is handling the crisis in his own way.

In other news, we talk about sunny Montpellier and why so many Americans are deciding to move to the southern city. Between the quality of life and culture, this Mediterranean city is quite appealing.

Finally, we finish off with French vocabulary to know ahead of the local elections, as well as how the voting process goes.
