Everyone who owns property in France – regardless of whether it is a main residence, a second home or one that is rented out – has to pay the annual taxe foncière.
Bills began dropping through letter boxes for this year’s payment since August 25th and should have all arrived by October 9th, depending on whether homeowners settle the due amount monthly or not.
Notices, meanwhile, have been available on the impots.gouv.fr website since September 20th for anyone who pays monthly.
It is important to note that any due amount over €300 must be paid by monthly direct debit or on the due date, or by direct online payment on the impots.gouv.fr website.
The deadline for paying property tax is Monday, October 20th if you pay online via the impots.gouv.fr website, or from your smartphone or tablet via the Impots.gouv app.
Tax office contact information is listed on your tax notice under the section ‘Vos démarches’. Remember to allow time for the bank transfer to process – the date of payment is considered to be the date of the interbank transfer.
Payment by cash or credit card can be taken at a tabac that is part in the Paiement de proximité programme.
Cheques – payable to the Trésor Public – should be sent to your local tax office, along with the SEPA TIP that you will find on your tax notice. Do not sign the SEPA TIP form or attach it to the properly completed cheque.
To use interbank payment slips (if a SEPA TIP is printed on your notice). Date the SEPA TIP, sign it, and return it to the collection centre whose address is printed on the document. If you have previously used this payment method, your bank details will be pre-printed. However, if this is the first time you are paying by this method, or if you have changed bank details, attach a bank account identification form (RIB) and return everything to the tax office whose address appears on the SEPA TIP.
