If you're travelling to France or around France over the festive period here's the latest on the situation on trains, roads and airlines.
Trains
Train travel had been threatened with disruption over the festive period after the four biggest rail unions called a 'renewable's strike from mid-December. However two unions have now ended their action after talks with rail operator SNCF. The other two are continuing, but disruption on the first two days of the action was minimal.
The outgoing transport minister says: "The trains will run over Christmas".
Trains are usually very busy in the week before Christmas as people travel to see their families so advance booking is highly recommended. Mainline SNCF trains run on both December 24th and 25th, with a normal or close to normal service.
In cities public transport runs as normal on December 24th, on December 25th it runs but usually with fewer services - similar to the Sunday timetable.
Roads
French schools mostly break up for Christmas on Friday, December 20th (apart from those few schools which have Saturday morning classes) and the roads are predicted to be busy on Friday as families make their festive getaway.
The roads will be 'difficult' across the country on Friday, predicts Bison futé, with the greater Paris region expected to be 'very difficult'. Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on Friday, December 27th - especially in eastern France - and Saturday, December 28th - especially in the south and east - for the return journeys.
The long range forecast predicts milder than usual December weather, but anyone driving in the mountains will need snow tyres or chains - check the rules for your area HERE.
Planes
A one-day local air traffic controllers' strike has been announced for multiple regional French airports on Tuesday, December 17th.
No flights at all will depart or arrive at Montpellier, Nîmes, and Perpignan airports on Tuesday, December 17th, while 60 percent of flights will be cancelled at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport. There will also be delays at the Ajaccio airport in Corsica. More info here.
At the time of writing there are no other planned strikes among either French air traffic controllers, pilots or airport staff that would affect travel over the Christmas or New Year period.
That said, we cannot guarantee that will remain the case.

Paris public transport
Some aspects of Paris public transport are affected by that ongoing SNCF strike, although disruption so far has been minimal. It does not affect the Metro, buses or trams - since they are operated by RATF - but there has been some disruption on the suburban RER lines or the regional Transilien trains.
RER B, which links Paris to Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports, had reduced services on the first day of the strike but at the time of writing is running as normal. Other RER and Transilien lines are running slightly less frequent services, but all routes continue to operate.
Public transport runs on both December 24th and 25th, although on the 25th there are less frequent services, similar to the Sunday timetables.
