The Talking France podcast is back dissecting the 'violent' new budget and (another) planned immigration law, plus French party invitations, Doliprane fever and the international row over Emily in Paris.

Host Ben McPartland is joined by The Local's Emma Pearson and John Lichfield to discuss all the latest goings-on in France, starting with the two political hot topics - the 2025 'austerity' budget and plans for another new law on immigration.

We look at what exactly the budget will mean for people living in France, and how the country's new interior minister wants to change the law governing immigration, visas and healthcare for foreigners.

The French president, meanwhile, is very worried about Emily in Paris - and whether she plans to move to Italy. Following the spat between Emmanuel Macron and the mayor of Rome, we take a look at the film and TV industry in Paris, how much money it brings in (and share the secret of the 'ghost' Metro station used for filming).

The sale of the pharmaceutical subsidiary responsible for producing painkiller Doliprane seems to be causing a headache in France, for reasons we explore.

And finally it's party time - from kids' birthdays to cocktail parties we discuss the various types of invitation you might receive in France, and what to expect in terms of food, drinks and gifts.

The podcast is now on a two-week Toussaint break, and will return on November 7th.
