The flames could be seen across Paris after fire broke out in the roof of one of the city's most iconic buildings.

The cathedral in the central 4th arrodisement hqd recently been undergoing extensive restoration works.
Many horrified tourists and passers-by photographed or filmed the blaze, while others took to twitter to express their shock.
Just seems such a huge, heartbreaking fire. Hope nobody is hurt, first & foremost. And aside from that, as anyone who has visited knows, it’s such a stunning cathedral. #NotreDame pic.twitter.com/DnNMnwiJ0i
