British skier dies after chairlift plunge in French Alps

A British man died while skiing at the French resort of Meribel on Friday after falling off a chairlift, the mountain rescue service said.
The 65-year-old man, who was with a female friend, slipped off shortly after the lift took off, probably after suffering a malaise, and plunged a dozen metres to the ground, rescue workers said.
The authorities did not identify the man.
Prosecutors in the nearby town of Albertville have opened an investigation into the exact cause of death.
