In Pictures: Snow falls over Paris as City of Light turns white

Paris and its surrounding area have been placed on alert for snow and ice as the white powder coats the city. 

 

The snow started falling in the French capital at around 10am and became steadier around midday and began to settle.

 

Much of northern, central, and eastern France was also on alert for snow and ice on Monday as a cold front swept across swathes of the country. 

 

Here's a look at the City of Light in white starting outside The Local's offices at the Bassin de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement in the north east of the city.
