There's no better place to work to work in France than ad tech firm Criteo. At least that's according to the results of a survey based on ratings from thousands of employees.

The annual survey by jobs site Glassdoor asks employees from companies across France which employ over 1,000 staff to anonymously rate their employer, their work, the office environment, and the company itself.

Criteo, which specalises in targetted online advertising topped the ranking with a score of 4.4 out of 5. Former employees complimented the firm, which is based in Paris on everything from the quality of the canteen, to the relaxed atmosphere and young and dynamic workforce.

In second place was the tech software firm SAP, which was given a score of 4.3.

The rest of the top 10 looked like this:

1. Criteo
2. SAP
3. Wavestone
4. Saint-Gobain
5 OVH
6. Michelin
7. Allianz
8. Décathlon
9. Amazon
10. Danone

Glassdoor claims its survey is unique compared to all others as it is based wholly on opinions offered voluntarily by employees past and present.

"We know that today's job seekers are more informed than ever about the companies to which they are applying. They seek as much information as possible, from corporate culture to career opportunities, wages and more," said Robert Holman, the founder of Glassdoor.

Last year it was US tech firm Microsoft which came out on top  but this year it didn't even make the top 10.

Indeed last year's top 10 was somewhat different.

1. Microsoft (technology)
2. Leroy Merlin (home and gardens retailer)
3. Decathlon (sports retailer)
4. Airbus Group (aerospace)
5. Total (oil and gas)
6. Dassault Systemes (software)
7. GE (conglomerate)
8. Crédit Agricole (bank)
9. Danone (food products)
10. L'Oréal (cosmetics)
