Half of Corsica left without electricity after giant power cut
French electricity provider EDF announced on Tuesday morning that half of the island of Corsica was without power after an "incident".
The power cut hit the island at 10.26am, EDF announced, blaming the blackout on a "localized incident".
The electricity giant said some 175,000 homes were left without power.
EDF said "all its teams were mobilized to ensure a return to normal as soon as possible", but said it was too early to determine what had caused the power cut.
