British skier seriously injured in fatal collision in French Alps
A 52-year-old Italian skier died and a British holidaymaker was left seriously injured after a violent collision on a gentle blue piste in a French Alpine resort at the weekend, emergency services said.
The Italian was knocked unconscious and could not be revived after he skied into the 33-year-old Briton on Sunday in Les Deux Alpes in an area used both by beginners and more experienced downhillers.
The British skier was taken to a nearby hospital in Grenoble where he is being treated for head injuries, the mountain rescue service in the local Isere region said.
The French Alps have been hit by a series of avalanches in recent weeks following heavy snowfall.
