If you were in the very south west of France on Sunday night, you must have witnessed the remarkable sunset.

The year has only just begun but it will be difficult to get a more impressive sunset in France in 2017 than that witnessed near Perpignan on the south west coast on Sunday night.

The sky above the Pyrénées-Orientales department that borders the region of Catalonia in Spain was adorned with what looked like waves of fiery clouds.

The spectacular phenomenon was apparently due to the “Tramontana” – a dry and cold wind that blows from the Pyrenees.

And obviously it didn’t go unnoticed by those living in the area as residents took to the usual channels of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to show off their pics.
