North western France set for violent storms on Wednesday

Thirteen départements in the north-west of France are on orange alert - which calls for residents to be "very vigilant" - on Wednesday with storms set to batter the region.
The summer storms are set to begin in the afternoon and continue through the night and into Thursday morning, Brittany in the west, through Normandy and up to the northern most tip of France.

The affected departments, marked in orange on the above map, are Calvados, Côtes-d'Armor, l'Eure, l'Ille-et-Vilaine, Loire-Atlantique, Manche, Mayenne, Morbihan, Nord, l'Orne, Pas-de-Calais, Seine-Maritime and Somme.
"These storms will be violent in places, accompanied by heavy rain (40 to 60mm), as well as sporadic strong gusts of wind and hail," a Météo France bulletin predicted.
The weather forecasters also warned that the storms may cause "serious damage in places".
