The attack occurred at 7:20pm on Sunday during a row between a couple in their forties living in an apartment on rue de la Cité, in the city’s 3rd arrondissement, Le Progrès reported.

After a day of heavy drinking, an argument broke out between the couple, with the 47-year-old accusing the 45-year-old of not cooking the steak properly at dinner. It is unclear whether he judged the steak to be overcooked or undercooked.

The row escalated, culminating in the 47-year-old allegedly stabbing his partner in the chest.

After realizing the seriousness of what he had done, the man then alerted emergency services.

His partner was reported to be in a “very serious condition” shortly after the stabbing, but is now said to be in a stable condition following an operation.

According to Le Progres, it’s not the first time police have had to intervene in an argument between the two, who reportedly have a turbulent relationship.

The suspect was taken to a drunk tank for a few hours before being taken into custody. He now faces charges of attempted murder.
