IN PICTURES: As around 1 million love locks are pulled down from the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, artists have been employed to fill the gaps with paintings. But not all are impressed by what they've come up with.

Yes, after years of deliberation, the love locks are coming down. It's no quick job though, with the locks estimated to weigh 45 tonnes.

The renovation is a brilliant move, according to almost every commenter on The Local France's Facebook and Twitter pages (follow us, by the way). Many are rejoicing that common sense appears to have triumphed over mindless vandals.

In any case, the love locks are going and the art is going up in its place, thanks to artists Brusk, Pantonio, Jace and El Seed, who were called in from the Paris Town Hall.

The hashtag #lovewithoutlocks has gone gangbusters on Twitter (in English, incidentally), and when Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo shared a picture of a love lock-less bridge, she was rewarded with over 7,000 likes (see the post below).

The art work will remain in place over the summer before glass panels will be installed as the permanent solution.

Here's a look at the new Pont Des Arts.

Bonjour à toutes et à tous ! Ce matin, redécouvrez la beauté de Paris : la nouvelle vue du Pont des Arts.

The response to the new art, however, has been overwhelmingly negative - at least according to our own followers on our Facebook page (see below). Join the conversation here
