When it comes to their favourite holiday destination, most kids would prefer to travel to France, a new survey has found.

Children under the age of 14 were asked by loveholidays.com to say which country was their favourite for a holiday - as well as what they most want during their stay.

France came out on top in the study, closely followed by the US and Spain.

The travel site noted that it was a "fair assumption" that Disneyland Paris had been a major drawcard for many of the children who picked France, considering that theme and water parks were the kids' favourite thing about travelling abroad.

Spending time with family was the second best thing about travelling abroad, the kids added.

"Children always have a way of surprising us and this is no exception. We are happy to see that children love France and its many delights," Matthew Lawson, E-commerce Director at loveholidays.com, said in a statement.

Full ranking:

1.      France
2.      US
3.      Spain
4.      Italy
5.      England
6.      Australia
7.      Greece
8.      Canada
9.      India
10     Turkey

Perhaps it was no surprise that France was picked as the top spot, considering 80 percent of the 2,000 children surveyed were from just across the Channel in the UK.

However, France is indeed the most attractive tourist destination in the world in terms of sheer numbers, with over 84 million arrivals last year alone.

The Hexagon finished second overall in a tourism and travel world ranking earlier this month, and was praised for its rich history and attractions, but warned that its security issues could prove detrimental in the long run.
