Blaze breaks out at top of Paris skyscraper

UPDATED: Firefighters were called out to the La Défense financial district on the edge of Paris on Wednesday to tackle a fire that had broken out at the top of one of the towers.

According to reports the fire broke out at the top of the tower Coeur Défense at around 10am. Images of smoke rising from the tower were posted on Twitter by eye witnesses.

Around 30 firefighters were sent immediately to the scene, and were able to contain the blaze to the top levels of the building, reported Europe 1 radio. 

The top floors were evacuated as a precaution, and there are no reports of any injuries. By 11am, the fire was reportedly extinguished. It remains unknown how the fire broke out. 

The Coeur Défense is one of the largest office complexes in Europe.


The La Défense financial district is in the suburbs north west of Paris.
