The ten best Christmas markets to visit in France

With Christmas on the way, it’s time to get into the yuletide swing of things. And what better way to get those festive feelings flowing than a visit to a Christmas market. The Local gives you the lowdown on 10 of the best in France.

Marchés de Noël have been popular in Alsace and northern France since the 16th century.

Today the markets are spread across the whole country and France now boasts the second largest number of Christmas markets in Europe.

They are also a perfect place to pick up handmade Christmas decorations and beautifully crafted toys and gifts.

With so many to choose from, The Local has decided to step in to give you the lowdown on the cheeriest, the prettiest and the quirkiest of the Gallic marchés de Noël.
