We all know France tops the global rankings for tourism and wine production but the country is also a world leader in many other slightly more obscure ways that are nevertheless worth cheering for or blushing at.

There’s no denying France has played a major role in world history and continues to leave its unique mark on culture, food, language and much more.

But stereotypes can sometimes be deceptive.

Take the fact that France isn’t the world’s biggest cheese producer, nor is it the nation with the biggest variety of ‘fromages’. Those titles go to the US and the UK respectively.
