A British man died on Thursday after he veered off the slopes at a French Alps ski resort. It's the latest in a series of fatal accidents this year for ski enthusiasts.

A British skier has died after a fall at the La Clusaz resort in the French Alps, police said Thursday.

The 51-year-old man, whose name was not released, died after veering off a piste whilst skiing at lunchtime on Thursday.

He fell approximately five metres (17 feet) before hitting his head on a rock.

The man was transferred to hospital in nearby Annecy but died shortly after arriving there.

His death is the latest this season, which has seen some tragic cases, including three separate death in one day on the slopes in the Alps.
