American designer Marc Jacobs' Paris apartment was targeted by a would-be burglar late last month who police nabbed just as he was about to break in. Jacobs rose to fame as the artistic director at legendary French label Louis Vuitton.

A 50-year-old homeless man hopped the garden wall at Jacobs’ Paris flat in the 7th arrondissement and was getting ready to break in to his flat when police allegedly caught the man in the act late last month, authorities said.

The alleged burglar was wearing gloves and carrying a screwdriver as he stood in the designer’s attached garden, but police had been watching the area for several days and happened to be there when the crime happened, French daily Le Parisien reported.

French authorities have been battling a multi-year rise in home break-ins which has been frequently blamed on gangs from Eastern Europe. Police didn’t indicate whether the crime targeting Jacobs’ home, which is in the same arronidissement as the Eiffel Tower, was tied to any crime trends.

Jacobs rose to fashion world fame during his work as Vuitton’s creative director, a job he landed in 1997 and held until 2013. In the spring of 2013 there were 285 Marc Jacobs retails stores in 60 countries across the globe.
