A young man had his toe ripped off and his leg badly broken this weekend when a spin aboard a carnival ride in Paris went horribly wrong, French media reported.

Police were investigating what went wrong on a Paris carnival ride early on Sunday when a man had his toe ripped off and his leg seriously broken in an apparent freak accident.

Just as the ride called the ‘Insider’ was about to start around 12:40am at the 'Foire du Trone' fun fair in the 12th arrondissement the victim tried to tell the workers that his leg was sticking out of the carriage he was strapped into, M6 television reported.

But the workers apparently didn’t hear him and started the ride.

As the machine began to turn, the man’s foot was hit by the ride’s mechanical arm, tearing off his toe and leaving him with a compound fracture of his tibia. He was still recovering in hospital on Monday.

The ride has been shut down as police interview witnesses and attempt to reconstruct the accident.

Investigators have seized a video ofthe incident that they will hope shed light on what exactly went wrong.
