This week French people were asked to submit and vote for their favourite newly-invented Gallic words, that in the future could find their place in a dictionary. The suggestions were both inventive and hilarious. We've selected ten of the best.

The French are often criticized for their resistance to linguistic change - especially when it comes to influences from the outside world.

But to mark French Language Week, internet users were asked to submit and rate their favourite invented French words that they thought deserved a place in the French dictionary.

A jury then selected their three favourites. Here's a selection of ten of the best words from the 3,000 submitted including the top three.
