It had never been achieved in 12 years of trying, but a lucky French spectator created history this week and pocketed €100,000 when he netted a spectacular basket during an annual All-star game in Paris. Watch how he did it.

Given just one shot at glory from the centre of the court, even the likes of basketball legend Michael Jordan would struggle to remain calm and hit the target.

But one lucky unemployed Frenchman, plucked at random from the crowd, defied the odds on Sunday night in Paris to score a spectacular basket.

The ritual of plucking a lucky spectator from the crowd had continued for 12 years during the annual All-star matches but no spectator had managed to succeed in netting.

Until an unemployed young man, named Thomas Berau,  stepped forward.

(The moment Berau found out he would have a chance to win €100,000)

“I have been coming here for four years, and someone else was always picked, but this time it was me. The pressure was on,” he told TF1 TV.

Describing the feeling of seeing the ball loop into the basket, Thomas said: “It was a moment of pure pleasure.”

The young man, who happens to be an amateur basketball player, now plans to use the money to pay off his debts, before travelling around the United States. Maybe he should take a copy of this video with him, in case he bumps into any NBA stars.
