2013 was a momentous year in France. We had scandal, war, national triumph, and tragedies at home and abroad, so as we turn the page on to 2014, The Local has picked out the 12 Biggest Stories of 2013 in France.


Whether in the realm of politics, sport, culture or in the extraordinary lives of ordinary French people, la Belle France was always (for good or for ill) a unique and fascinating place to watch, and especially, to live in, in 2013.
Between the economy, the worlds of sport and the arts, and the always-intriguing business of French politics, there wasn't a single dull day since January 1st.
