Parisians are very proud of their city, so it would have hurt this week when the French capital lost its title as the "Best City in the World" to none other than London. Many readers of The Local were aghast. Here's their top ten reasons why Paris is simply a better city than London.

OK London got the Olympics but does a once-in-a-lifetime sporting bonanza that lasts around three weeks really make a city great?

When Paris was dethroned as the "Best City in the World" this week by its rival from across the Channel, it stirred up a bit of emotion among our readers and unsurprisingly among the city's proud tourism chiefs, who plainly did not agree with the results of the survey.

What is evident from the reaction to the survey is that the question of which city is the best divides opinion, with not many people left sitting on the fence.

"I love London, Paris is for French people only," Loredana Dominici told The Local.

"As an American  I never had any intention of ever going to Paris, but was instantly in love the moment I arrived. Seriously, what is there NOT to love?" said Lisa Hecker.

Although for some people it appears neither London or Paris is their cup of tea.

"I hate both of them equally," said Tom Phillips.

Although while many point out the positives and negatives of both cities, there are a good few reasons, according to readers, why Paris beats London hands down. Click below to see find out what Paris has over the capital of Britain.
