A man in the south west French city of Bordeaux was jailed this week for forcing both his partner and her mother to work as prostitutes. He was found guilty of "aggravated pimping".

The 23-year-old was handed a six-month prison sentence by a judge in Bordeaux after it emerged he had forced his mother-in-law into prostitution by emotionally blackmailing her.

Prosecutors in Bordeaux discovered that the man threatened to beat his 18-year-old partner if her mother, aged in her 50s, did not obey his instructions to sell her body on the streets of the city, regional newspaper Sud Ouest reported.

His partner was not treated any better.

According to the newspaper he also forced the teenager to work the streets alongside her mother and pocketed the cash both of them made.

Police in the area only found out about the man’s sick emotional blackmail of the two women, after the teenager confided with one of her friends.

Officers arrested the man, who is a Bulgarian national, at a squat in the city earlier this week. He was hauled before a judge on Wednesday and tried for aggravated pimping.

He was found guilty and sentenced to six months behind bars.
