Fiat falls into the river Seine

Potentially overwhelmed by the beauty of gothic cathedral Notre Dame in the French capital, a driver forgot to put their handbrake on after parking on Sunday – and lost their car to the river Seine.

On the quai de Montebello, in the fifth arrondissement of Paris and opposition the Notre Dame,  this costly mistake saw the car slip into the river just after the driver parked up.

The red Fiat 500 was mercifully empty when it took the plunge.

River police were alerted at around 8.30pm on Sunday, and came immediately to fish the Fiat out.
