France's new President Francois Hollande was declared in good health on Tuesday after undergoing his first medical exam as head of state, the presidency said.

"At the request of the President of the Republic, a medical and biological exam was carried out on him at the presidency's medical service," a statement said, adding that the tests came back "normal."

During the election campaign Hollande, who was sworn in on May 15, had promised to undergo medical exams once every six months and publish the results.
