Airport hunger strike ends after 28 days

Activists protesting against plans for a new airport near Nantes have stopped their hunger strike at 28 days.

The activists started the hunger strike a month ago to campaign against the expulsion of farmers who owned the land where authorities planned to build the Notre-Dame-des-Landes airport.

They originally started protesting in January this year.

One of the farmers concerned, Michel Tari, said: “The battle will continue, but what is most important is that the farmers concerned, about 100 people, will not be asked to leave in at least the next two years.”

A camp set up during the hunger in Nantes town centre, dubbed as the protesters’ headquarters, is to be dismantled today.
