The body of a 55-year-old man, thought to have been beaten to death, has been found in a bin full of water in Bessé-sur-Braye, 55 km from Le Mans.

The body was discovered upside-down in a bin full of water between the town’s church and a retirement home. The man’s skull had also been smashed.

The victim had lived in the area for about 12 years. Neighbours say he seemed weak and sickly, but was always friendly and willing to help.

He came from a big family, and had 10 sisters.

Local police have launched a full investigation, and are conducting inquiries while waiting for the results of the autopsy.
