When Parisian artist Vahram Muratyan moved to New York in September 2010 he had little idea that his illustrations would lead to a hit blog, an exhibition in one of Paris' most fashionable stores and a publishing deal.

Muratyan's work offers a humorous view of the differences and similarities between Paris and New York by putting together a series of items, people and places from each of the two cities. Godard or Woody? Expresso or Americano? Macaroon or cupcake?

"I'd been dreaming of living in New York for years," he told daily newspaper 20 Minutes. "I enjoyed comparing the two cities."

"To begin with, I thought about making a series of silkscreen prints for a small exhibition when I got back," he said. "But the blog quickly took off. It was mad really."

Within weeks his blog had caught the attention of thousands of internet users.

A number of book publishers also noticed his work. Muratyan signed up with 10/18 and Penguin.

An exhibition of Muratyan's work has already been on display in the fashionable Colette shop in Paris and the book went on sale on Thursday.

"This book has allowed me to meet all the people that I wanted to meet when I was first starting out," he said.
