Air Algerie flights leave Paris after four-day strike
Air Algerie flights took off from Paris on Friday after a four-day strike which left thousands of holidaymakers stranded.
Nine of the Algerian state carriers' flights left Orly airport, beginning the task of transporting 1,600 travellers on top of Friday's scheduled passengers.
There were scenes of pushing and confusion at checkout desks as delayed travellers vied for seats.
Another 300-450 Air Algerie customers were stranded at Roissy, the other main airport serving the French capital, according to an airport source, with 60 of them having spent the night there.
There were similar scenes in Marseille, Nice and elsewhere.
The strike by cabin staff over pay, which began on Monday, led to the cancellation of dozens of Air Algerie's flights at a time when many French-based Algerian expatriates make their annual trip to see relatives.
The workers agreed late Thursday to go back to work following the direct intervention by the office of of Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.
Talks on their grievances will resume next week, union leader Yassine Hamamouche said in Algiers.
