New Renault deputy to draw line under affair

French carmaker Renault appointed on Monday Carlos Tavares as its new deputy chief in a board room shuffle aimed at overcoming an embarrassing bogus industrial espionage case.

Tavares replaces as chief operating officer Patrick Pelata, who resigned last month over the scandal that saw three senior executives wrongfully accused of selling secrets from its electric vehicles programme.

Tavares, 52, previously headed up operations in the Americas at Renault's partner Nissan.

Renault chief executive Carlos Ghosn went on prime-time television in March to apologise "personally and in Renault's name" for the affair.
