A Frenchman’s attempt to perform a world-record-breaking car stunt in Tignes, in the southern Rhône-Alpes region, went awry on Tuesday morning when his car crashed during a practice session. The moment was captured on camera.

Guerlain Chicherit was hoping to jump 110 metres in his specially modified Mini to break the world record 100m set by Tanner Foust in 2011, according to Valdinet.

In the video clip all seems to be going smoothly until the car approaches the landing ramp where it crashes and rolls over several times.

According to local daily Le Dauphine emergency services were immediately called to the scene before the Frenchman was taken to hospital by helicopter.

In a message posted on his official Facebook fan page the four-time world champion in freeride mountain-biking and car racing is said to be only slightly injured.

“Guerlain is doing good and has already reviewed video footage of the jump to see what went wrong. He got out of the car himself, slightly injured and will now get a precautionary MRI to check that everything is fine,” it read.

According to a message posted on the page on Sunday, the jump had been postponed due to bad weather.

"So I was ready to jump this morning but the weather was no good," Chicherit wrote. "High temperatures and fog. We decided not to jump today and reschedule it for maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm gonna study the weather very closely and keep you updated."
