Who said Halloween was an American festival? Paris is positively abuzz with Halloween fever this week. From pumpkin-carving to a real haunted house, we've listed eight events not to miss.

Haunted house: Paris has a real haunted house called Le Manoir de Paris and it's really scary.

The winding visit that goes over three levels is inspired by 20 terrifying legends about the City of Light. There are, of course, Phantom of the Opera, catacombs and vampire-inspired portions of the roughly 1,500 square-metre attraction.

It's open everyday through Halloween at 18 Rue du Paradis in the 10th arrondissement. Reserve tickets online to avoid long lines.

Pumpkin-carving: The folks at Les Fermes de Gally will allow you to select your own pumpkin and then carve your preferred design into it. Because someone else is doing the cutting it's great for kids.

You can also pick apples, visit the petting zoo and pick up some of the farm's famous products while on site.

The Fête de la Citrouille (The Pumpkin Festival) runs through Halloween just off the D7 highway in Saint-Cyr-L'École, 78210  (Rue du Docteur Vaillant - 78210 on your GPS). Tickets available online.

Football fright: For football fans who also don't mind a little scare, the Stade de France in the Paris suburbs will host a haunted house event this week. Most of the action will be in the behind the scenes areas usually not open to the public.

But there will also be face painting, trick or treating and some arts and crafts projects for kids. As part of the visit you'll get to see the players' locker rooms, but they will be have undergone a "surprise" transformation.

The fair is on from October 31st-November 3rd. Tickets are available online.

Haunted village: The popular Parc Astérix amusement park has been transformed into a haunted village with a whole variety of nightmarish monsters. Attractions include a 'House of Fear' populated by vampires and other undead creatures (not suitable for under-16s) and street performances involving ghosts, witches and evil spirits.

It's open now until November 2nd at Mortefontaine 60128.

Murder mystery: If you're looking for something more grown-up to do in town this Halloween then head to the Chateau Thoiry for a Halloween murder mystery evening. With the help of clues you'll be led on a ghostly journey through the chateau's corridors and gardens in search of the murderer.

If you've got kids there are also night walks where you can explore the legends of the park.

It's open on the evening of October 30th and 31st at Thoiry, 78770.

Costume party: If an American-style Halloween is more your thing then the Hard Rock Café might be right up your street.

On November 2nd there will be face-painting for kids, a costume competition and even the chance to learn Thriller choreography with a Michael Jackson impersonator. You'll need to book in advance. A breakfast buffet will also be on offer to families from 9am until 12pm.

Meanwhile adults are invited to a costume party at the café on the night of Halloween.

The Café is located on 14 Boulevard Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement.

Halloween manor: Open to over-16s, the haunted manor at the Koezio amusement park is not for the faint-hearted. In groups you'll have to cross five rooms full of all kinds of nightmarish beings with just a torch to guide the way. The program also includes a Halloween quiz, horror movies, a bloody buffet and a costume contest.

It's open from 6pm on the evenings of October 30th and 31st. You'll need to book online first.

Adventure game: Prizoners is an indoor team game where your objective is to solve a mystery before the hour is up. There you'll be invited to relive some of the spookiest moments in Parisian history in the Bastille prison and the corridors of the Sorbonne.

It's open from 10am until 2am on Thursday October 30th and Friday October 31st at 15 Rue Quincampoix in the 4th arrondissement. Book online first.
