The Normandy coast in northern France is famous for its dramatic coastal cliffs but authorities are warning people not to get too close.

The advice comes after an estimated 30,000 tonnes of rock split from the cliff  near the city of Le Havre and plunged towards the beach below.

The mayor of the nearby town of Saint-Jouin-Bruneval, François Auber was forced to issue warnings last Monday lunchtime when the cliff became unstable.

A security cordon was set up around the area but that didn’t stop people turning up in the hope off seeing the erosion at first hand.

One eyewitness managed to capture the landslide on video, which was passed on to France’s BFMTV channel.
