A rap video featuring young men firing Kalashnikovs has sparked controversy in the southern town of Nice.

In the video clip, featuring rap group Negresco, balaclava-wearing men bear Kalashnikovs and fire shots into the air. The film was shot in Ariane, an impoverished neighbourhood in Nice.

The clip also features young men climbing up a church to hang an Algerian flag and young men on motorbikes doing wheelies.

Right-wing UMP politicians have slammed the video clip, saying it is violent and anti-French. The Alpes-Maritimes member of parliament Rudy Salles, says "these unacceptable attitudes should be condemned".

The Nice prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation into whether the weapons featured in the clip are real or not. The men featured in the clip risk being charged with the unlawful possession and use of firearms.
